If you enjoy games, storytelling, strategy, or visual design, this class gives you the chance to build a game of your own. Games are fun, but designing a well-balanced, playable game will challenge your thinking and build skills in communication, collaboration, and persistence.

We’ll begin by examining some of our favorite tabletop games and figuring out what makes them enjoyable, or not, to play. We’ll also explore different kinds of puzzles and look at how strategy, chance, and decision-making shape a game.

Students will be guided through the game design process, using everyday materials to create several rapid prototypes. We’ll look at how theme, rules, economics, mechanics, and systems work together. Students will playtest each other’s games, share feedback, and revise their own work again and again.

The goal is to create a game that someone else genuinely wants to play. Depending on individual interests and experience, there may also be opportunities to create higher-quality 2D and 3D game assets.
