Tip tip tap tap, ding! Part Art, part History, part ELA.

Why do we write? How long have we been doing it? What’s different when we write by hand, without a screen or keyboard? What does it mean that something that was once crafted by hand can now be reproduced, infinitely, by machine?

In this class, we will travel through time and explore, hands-on, various writing methods of the past including cursive, calligraphy, quill pens, fountain pens, and more. We will also type, but with type writers! Yes, like you saw in that movie one time.

By the end of this class, you will have been exposed to different ways of organizing your thoughts before writing something, editing and revising written works, some different examples of poetry, and some of the threads of history that tie together the human experience and the written word. This class will challenge you and defy your expectations.

Class Competencies: Advanced Communication, Voice, Global Thinking
